UK's inability to confirm nationality delaying deportation, talks on

Officials told ET that information about detention and deportation was not shared with the Indian high commission and the deportation was done directly by the host government if the deportee had valid travel documents. For those who do not have valid documents, UK authorities seek issuance of an emergency certificate to the deportee. According to information shared by UK authorities with their Indian counterparts, there were nearly 60,000 illegal Indian immigrants in different parts of that country. However, Indian authorities argue that besides India, several of these cases are from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
