The Bihar government is exploring all possible options to complete the caste survey, which was halted by the Patna High Court on May 4 after 80% of the work was finished. While the government has asked for an early hearing, it is also willing to enact a law, if necessary. Vijay Kumar Choudhary, the finance and parliamentary affairs minister, said the government is serious about the survey, saying that “authentic caste-wise population data is important to formulate and implement any government policy. We need to know the economic condition of people belonging to every caste.
